Windang Bridge Project

Windang Bridge Project

Description

Transport for NSW engaged Boab Commercial Marine to place rock around the pylons of Windang Bridge, protecting the foundations against tidal scour at the entrance to Lake Illawarra.

The channel runs hard on the tide, so every placement was made while our vessels held station against the flow. Off the shelf plant could not place rock accurately in those conditions, so we built our own. Custom hydraulic tipper bins, designed and fitted into our work punts, let the crew carry rock out and tip it exactly where it was needed at each pylon.

Transport for NSW then asked us to extend our scope to include dredging, so that the bridge would have an even footing along its entire length.
Thunderbolt, Sunny and Daisy worked the job alongside our barges and dredge for around 2 years.
